16 lbs!

At the parent/infant group today, I weighed Joshua and found out that he is already 16 lbs!!

For the last 2 to 3 weeks, he has been refusing the bottle regularly. He went from taking almost 500 ml a day of formula down to just under 300 ml. I was getting worried about him. Obviously, I did not need to worry. Two weeks ago he was 15 lbs and 1 oz, and now 2 weeks later he is 16 lbs. I think he’s gaining weight just fine without all the extra formula. For whatever reason, I am producing a bit more milk than I did last month. I’m VERY happy with that.

Kelly, the public health nurse, did recommend that we take Joshua to see Dr. L to get an assessment of his skin. His face is always red, and he’s always scratching on top of that, making his face look all dry and scaly. Kelly thinks we may need a pediatric allergist or some kind of specialist to assess what the issue is.

Almost 9 lbs of pure joy

We went back to Dr. L today for another weight check for Joshua. He is now 8 lbs and 14 oz! He is almost 9 lbs of pure joy!

She checked him over, and was happy with his progress of weight gain and health in general. We don’t have to go back for another 2 weeks, when he is a month old.

For now, I think I will continue with the breastfeeding attempts and supplementing with formula. He seems to be ok with this combination. Although Dr. L acknowledged that it is fairly challenging to keep up with both feeding methods, and I tend to agree. Nevertheless, it is cold and flu season, so I’d like him to keep breastfeeding so he gets more antibodies.
