Today is a monumental kind of day in my books. Why? Because Joshua fed me a piece of cheese.
Big deal? Abso-freaking-lutely!
Joshua has been getting better at putting food in his mouth. Just last week he started using his pincers rather than swiping at the food. And he is becoming more precise at aiming the food into his mouth rather than his cheeks. He loves small pieces of cheese I cut up for him and put on his booster seat tray.
For lunch today, I gave him a few pieces of cheese in addition to his regular food. He picked up a piece of cheese like usual, but his little hand came at my direction. So I leaned in closer and opened my mouth, and he put the piece of cheese in MY mouth!
I was so thrilled that I started laughing and cheering, and he looked at Cliff and smiled with a very proud look on his face. He did this a few more times, and also fed Cliff a piece of cheese.
Why is this such a big deal to me? I suppose it is just another phase of his growth, but it made me feel so loved. He gave me something he really loved. He didn’t look at how few pieces he had, he didn’t hesitate, and he was so happy to do it.
It’s like when Joshua gives me his slobbery, open-mouthed kisses, I just absolutely love it. I always think that the length of time he will be at this stage of his life is just so short. One day soon enough, he wouldn’t want to kiss his old mama, or toss her a piece of cheese.
Yes, I know, I’m being very sentimental. But there are few things in life that bring me as much joy as having Joshua in my life.
