This morning’s appointment with Dr. L was interesting. She said my cervix is now 2 or 3 cm dilated and very soft. In addition, I’ve been having the Braxton Hicks contractions even when sitting still in the last few days. Essentially, my body is getting ready for the baby’s arrival anytime now.

She proceeded with a sweep (separating the water bag and the uterus lining), which was very uncomfortable for me, but will help prevent induction in most cases. She said she cannot predict when the baby will come, but this week or next week would be quite normal and expected.

It’s very exciting to think that the baby can come anytime now, and a little scary at the same time. Am I really ready for this? I’m not sure if anyone can ever be completely “ready” for the arrival of their first born child. I am glad that Cliff has been working at home, so at least I know he will be ready to go to the hospital with me at moment’s notice.
